Community Programs

The Stz置minus First Nation is committed to offering a wide variety of recreational, after school and continuing education services to its membership and community residents. Working out of the Stz置minus gymnasium/community centre, a dedicated and enthusiastic staff offers after school program for children, teenagers and young adults. These include arts and crafts, play time activities and organized sporting events. Adjacent to the community centre are two regulation size playing fields, complete with lighting for evening use. The fields are slated for rehabilitation in the summer of 2011 as part of the construction for the new Stz置minus Secondary School. Included in the rehabilitation will be a chain link fence that will assist in maintaining the fields and contribute to the safety of the players.

In addition to sports and cultural activities, centre staff also offer short courses and workshops that assist people in enhancing their employability, as well courses that address specific needs or interests such as water safety and basic navigation.

Also housed in the community centre is a computer lab that is used for instructional purposes, as well as being available to community members for general use.

Community centre staff also offers a comprehensive program of summer activities that engage children and teen agers in a variety of recreational and cultural activities, including field trips, so that the summer months are both a rewarding and fun time for all.
